My buddy Steve and I have been planning a "deep drop" excursion for some time. He’s caught everything else with me but no big bottom fish. Unfortunately when we got to the deep, the current was screaming, which made it very difficult to fish. Then the wind started blowing which made it even worse.
After several drops and trying a couple different spots, we finally dropped a bait in the mouth of a 40 pound snowy grouper. After that we set out our marlin baits and waited for a "big bite". It never happened, but we did catch a nice gaffer dolphin and a blackfin tuna anyway. The good news is that the boats that stayed further inshore had a much better sign of dolphin today. It’s almost May, after all. Thanks Steve!
